Marine Formula Featured in Passage Maker

The May 2005 edition of Passage Maker Magazine contains a feature article on DeBond Corporation's product, Marine Formula™

February 23, 2005 -- Passage Maker Magazine is featuring Marine Formula™ on page 28 of its May 2005 edition.  The text of the article is as follows:

Fifteen years ago, 3M 5200 seemed the answer to builders' and repairers' prayers: It was strong, waterproof, long lasting and tenacious. It was used prodigiously by boatyards and boatbuilding shops for everything from bedding in struts and through-hull fittings to deck hardware, ports and window frames. I've even seen electronics installations sealed with 5200.

The product is both strong and resilient. I was once charged with removing an 8,000-pound keel from a cruising sailboat. I hung the boat in the slings of a travel lift, with the lead keel securely cribbed in place. After the keel fasteners were removed inside the boat, I lifted the hull, and, much to my surprise, the keel followed along. I was certain I'd missed a keel bolt or two. But the keel was stuck to the hull only by the 5200.

Despite its great utility, when the time comes to remove these parts, the only thing that works is brute force or heat, and the latter often can't be used around fiberglass.

Now there's another alternative:  Marine Formula™. Applied sparingly (product literature notes "a small amount goes a long way" -is this an honest company or what?) to cured 5200 and other sealants (including Liquid Nails, tape residue and chewing gum), it attacks the chemical bonds between the molecules, dissolving otherwise indestructible materials. Best of all, it won't harm gelcoat, clearcoat, PlexiGlas, Awlgrip or Imron (though not Lexan). Every boat toolbox should contain a can of this product.
